Export Asana to Excel or CSV with every comment

Asana's own project CSV export leaves comments out. Export With Comments gives you a spreadsheet with every task and the whole comment thread, so you can sort, filter and search the discussion.

What the CSV looks like

One row per comment. A task with three comments takes three rows, and a task with no comments still gets one row with the comment cells left empty. The columns are:

Task ID, Task, Parent task, Section, Assignee, Completed, Completed at, Due, Start, Created, Modified, Tags, Notes, Link, Comment #, Comment author, Comment time, Comment text

When you export several projects in one run (with a license), a Project column comes first. You can open the sample CSV to see it.

What the Excel file looks like

The Excel file has three sheets:

Subtasks

Subtasks are included, at any depth. Each one comes right after its parent task, and the Parent task column shows the parent's name.

Opening it in Google Sheets

In Google Sheets, go to File, then Import, and upload the CSV or the Excel file. The Excel file keeps its three sheets as tabs.

Free vs license

Either way, the file is built in your browser. We don't store your tasks or comments, and we can't change anything in your Asana.

FAQ

Can I export Asana tasks to Excel with comments?

Yes. Connect Asana (read-only), pick a project, choose Excel, and you get the three sheets above. Excel comes with the license. If you only need a spreadsheet, the free CSV opens in Excel too.

Why does Asana's CSV export have no comments?

Asana's project CSV export just doesn't include them, and Asana staff have confirmed it on their forum. Our guide to exporting Asana comments covers that and the other ways to get comments out.

Is the CSV export really free?

Yes. CSV of one project at a time is free with no size limit, and you don't need to buy anything to try it.
